Ad finem Imperii Romani. Studies in Honour of Coriolan H. Opreanu (Cluj-Napoca 2015) pp. 145-166.
Guarrazar near Toledo, Central Spain, is a synonym for the most important treasure of Visigothic time found on the Iberian Peninsular. At least, 13 votive crowns, 7 votive crosses, and fragments of a bigger procession cross were part of the treasure. The most valuable of the primarily preserved findings – in the early 20th cent. some objects were lost by theft – are two royal votive crowns of 7th cent. AD, donated by the kings Svinthila and Reccesvinth. They play an important role in the discussion of the ideology of Visigothic kingship. The site, where the treasure was found, is less known. However, after some geophysical prospection and sondages between 2002 and 2005, new excavations have started in 2013 and provided already some evidence for an important Visigothic settlement in the surroundings of Toledo.
